At the banquet after the rally, I also volunteered to shoot portraits of the winners. With only six finishers (the four survivors from Saturday, plus two who fixed their cars overnight), pretty much everyone who finished was a winner. My lighting setup for these was simplicity itself. A single remote flashgun firing through a diffusion screen. I was careful to get the Lucas logo in the background, as they were the main sponsor of the whole event.
Maybe you can see that Brian, the guy with the beard in the last picture, is a little blurred. I was shooting wide open at f/2.8 and he was kneeling just behind Will, his driver, and he was just outside my depth of field.
Live and learn.
My thanks to Katianna Pihakari and Pikasports for her hospitality during the event; to Denise McMahon for staging a great event; and to all the competitors for looking awesome for my camera.
